Waterpik WP-660C Ultra Water Flosser

Last week my Braun Oxyjet broke after a few years of irregular use. I investigated buying a new one but was shocked at how expensive they were and also noted that several other people on Productreview.com.au had reported the same problem with their Oxyjet as I had experienced with mine - the cord connecting the handset to the base unit had broken.

Given that I couldn't justify spending $200 on something that was likely to fail in the same manner within a couple of years, I started looking for alternatives. I found the Waterpik WP-660C on the ProductReview website and it seemed to have a good reputation. I then went directly to Waterpik's Australian website and found that you could buy that model directly from then for $179. That seemed a little expensive, so I didn't bother.

At the weekend I checked out several stores at our local Westfield centre, and found the Waterpik at Shavershop for $159. I got the impression that I could have negotiated this price down further, but I didn't bother.

So, I got home and tried the Waterpik. It comes with 6 attachments, unlike the Oxyjet which has only one. And it has a 10-step pressure setting, unlike the 5 on the Oxyjet. For me personally, I have been using the machine on level 10. In truth, I wish it had a little more pressure, but it is more powerful than my old Oxyjet. One thing that the Waterpik doesn't do (that the Oxyjet does) is to quickly rotate the spray, and I do miss that function.

I tried all of the attachments, and the regular head works just fine for me. A couple of the attachments are designed for people who wear braces, which I don't, so I probably won't use them.

One annoyance is that you can store the attachments in the lid of the machine - but only 4 of them. Given that it comes with 6, this means you have one attachment that you need to store in a cupboard or drawer, as there's no room for it in the machine (I keep the regular jet attachment in place on the machine, and store 4 others in the lid - leaving one with no place to go.)

I've only had this for a few days but so far I'm pretty happy. And it comes with a 2-year warranty which gives me a little peace-of-mind.
